What People Are Saying
“Truly a hidden gem in the hustle n bustle of the concrete jungle known as Los Angeles. Located just south of the LA Arts District, the building is just west of Alameda, between 4th n 5th streets. It gives of a late 40s to early 50s exterior motiff; utilizing the building's revolving signage at the top peak of its roof. Loud, but suttle, it is very distinguishable from the standardized warehouse buildings it is neighboring with. With an elevated floor, you walk up to the entrance while being flanked by umbrellas, open air seating, and gas heaters for the early morning cool breeze and night time vibes. The coffee selection is existent; it would be best to become familiar with their barista; would be best to ask what they recommend. Staff are very nice, welcoming, busy, and professional. The interior reminds you of the old tile and floral decor and would I dare say it, has a New York cramped busy, coffeeshop feel with ample amounts of seating and tables. The vibe it gives off would be, "It's fast pace, hustle n bustle, but please stay and hang out with us and enjoy your coffee, croissans, deserts and have a breakfast meal with us." You can come n go as you please; you wouldn't think you'd be in a questionable part of Los Angeles once you entered this little corner haven. Haven, as a matter of fact is what this place can be called; to temporarily take you away from the LA stress and anxiety that comes with it. Going there with friends, family, or even solo; seems to be a treat. All n all, 25 diamonds 💎 out of 5 stars ⭐”
“This was my third Urth Caffé in the city, and at this point it’s honestly turning into a routine. Same order every time for a reason — Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. I know what I’m getting. Or at least I usually do. This visit was good… but not perfect. The food overall was excellent, as expected. The salmon was solid, eggs cooked right, sauce on point. No complaints there. The only miss was the bread — something felt off this time. Not terrible, just not at the level I’m used to from Urth. Small detail, but noticeable when you’ve had the same dish multiple times. Now the real challenge: parking. Downtown LA did what downtown LA always does. Finding free parking near this location was almost impossible. I spent about 15 minutes circling before giving up and paying $5 for a paid lot. Not Urth’s fault, but it’s part of the experience here, so worth mentioning if you’re planning a visit. Despite that, I’ll say this — I’ll still keep coming back. Urth Caffé remains one of my go-to breakfast spots, and even with a minor miss this time, the quality and consistency are still there. If you’re downtown and craving a proper breakfast, this place is still a safe bet. Just plan ahead for parking — or be ready to pay.”
“I love Urth cafe! Must-to-try: AVOCADO PIZZA! I ordered this one 5 times out of my 7 visits. It’s really good and it becomes perfect if you ask to add smoked salmon on top (+ about 9$, but it worth it) SPANISH COFFEE The best coffee ever, all my friends love it. BANANA PIE Simple but so good. It’s a best seller, as I know What I didn’t really enjoy: Turkey burger. Not good at all… it tastes like pork. I asked if there is any another type of meet besides turkey and a manager said no. I don’t eat red meat for a couple of years, but I still remember the taste and my friend said same thing about this burger. She didn’t like it neither even though she eats all types of meats. Hazelnut chocolate cake. It is basically just chocolate biscuit with hazelnut decoration. Not really good my itself, but not bad if you take it to go and add some berries at home. I understand everyone’s taste is different, but I saw this unfinished cake on the tables several times. In overall I have my favorites and they definitely worth 5 stars. Besides of that, it’s very nice cafe to dine in, and the menu has so many items! There are no other cafe in LA that will have this big menu.”
“I got to say this was one of my highlights of my trip. I got there nice and early, spited a great parking spot but don’t worry there is lots parking options. This restaurant has plenty of seating and is able to hold a good size party. You got indoor options, terrace options, sidewalk options and even a outdoor tent options. This guys don’t mess around and you won’t leave disappointed. The atmosphere is great, people taking the order are friendly and helpful. Waiting on line due to covid has never been more pleasant as you know the end will be unforgettable. I indulged on a great omelette with ham and cheese with potatoes. They forgot my potatoes, but my waiter did not hesitate and brought me what I order. That is customer service at is best! I had this fruit tart and two amazing coffees. I had to have a second coffee as the first one was amazing. Trust me!! You will impress and you will thank me. Let me know what you think. Urth Caffe if you read this, thank you for the experience and I miss you as I am in Canada now. Will come back on my next visit🙏🏽🙏🏽 Update: 2022 Came back for another round and it was amazing! This place rocks! #chicosreviews76”
“We took the buns to our tables and waited for our Panini to be served via a number placed at our table. Service was prompt and the panini was sent to our table in about 10 minutes. The panini was nicely toasted and crisp on the outside. It also had a nice cheese pull with the mozzarella. Prosciutto added depth to the taste of the Panini. By itself, the panini was already delicious. Not sure why a salsa (which tasted like tomato-based sauce for pizzas) was served on the side. If there was a tiny complain, we thought at $15+, the panini portion could have been slightly bigger. On the other hand, both buns that we ordered were excellent. You could really taste the rich nutella and cinnamon between the layers of the croissant bun while the slightly crushed hazelnut, added crunch. Pecan bun on the other hand had generous amount of sticky, sweet pecans and the bun had a chewy texture with dates sprinkled within. Surprised by both buns with different textures though they don’t look like much... For the full review and details of our 5 months Round The World (RTW) travels, visit 2bearbear today!”
“Great option for a place with good atmosphere, food and coffee. Counts with parking, indoor seating area is nice but can be a little noisy and gets full pretty easy, outdoor patio has heaters and a cover for rain and wind. Coffee is good but make sure to choose the correct beans, the menu say they offer light and dark roast but they may not ask you which one do you prefer and the dark one was the default one and it was too dark for my taste, it seem they use the same for cold brew and I couldn't take more than a few sips, asking for cream or milk could help. I only ordered a croissant and didn't offer to re heat it which would be nice in the cold weather. Food was great, I ordered the roast sandwich with a salad, the meat was just a little to fatty but really good overall, right portion size and realizable priced. Service was good, friendly and asking every now and then if there was something they could help with. I'd recommend to check this place if you're around, just maybe not the best for large group if looking for indoor seating.”
“A chic neighborhood bakery with a welcoming environment that's offers than just pastries. Food tasted delicious and comes out with a great presentation. Pizzas, sandwiches, soups are just a small sample of the food options this cafe offers. The portions are quite large as the family size salad felt enough that it could feed four adults. Meals had feel that they were prepared with fresh ingredients. Food is ordered at the counter and brought to your table (self seating). Our order was brought out in intervals and unfortunately our food got a bit cold as we waited for the rest of our party had their meals. Bakery items look amazing. Plenty of options. Plenty of seating both inside and out. Outside seating was accentuated with heating towers to keep the environment warm and comfortable. Restrooms were clean. The cost is on the expensive side. This cafe has a feeling more like a Corner Bakery (if you are familiar).”
“Took my parents here for a birthday brunch and we had a really lovely time! Service is a little different, where you stand in line and order then find a table to sit at. That's usually not my favorite kind of service, especially when tables are scarce, but there were a lot of tables available, even when we went on a Saturday morning. We sat outside which was very pleasant. Food was delicious, fresh and came out hot. We didn't have any pastries but they looked wonderful. Our lattes were probably our favorite part. We've come before just for the lattes, my parents favorite being the Spanish Latte. Service was friendly, but there wasn't much interaction since you just order at the counter and sit. The like kept up the entire time we were there, so I imagine they are continuously busy. Really good place for breakfast/lunch with friends or family. Lots of options to choose from on the menu for everyone's cravings.”
“Had the privilege to stop by and check this cafe recently and here it is, the good, this cafe offers a decent selection of coffees, teas, lattes and such, but above all, amazing desserts. The selection of cheesecake or other assorted treats are worth checking out alone. Where it fumbles the ball (in my opinion) is the food category. I'll show photos of the plates I had. One is the short ribs and the other was the Huevos Rancheros, if you can tell which is which from the photos you need to sign up for Scotland Yard or something. My point is , they put more emphasis on presentation than taste. While maybe the meat is well or in my case over salted. Simple things like beans have no taste. So to cut to the point, I don't recommend the location for food, but highly recommend for your dessert fix. ... And before I forget, the staff was charming, helpful, and very considerate.”
“This place slaps!! This location is pretty good with ample seating — it’s a lot less crowded / less wait lines during the weekday around lunch and a lot more crowded on weekends. The first time I went and got dessert and coffee with a friend - we both the pumpkin chai latte and sweet potatoe pie. Both were very very good. Urth caffe during fall season is the best! They have fall flavored goods and I highly recommend checking this location out. Service was great, all around urth is an LA classic and a must visit!!! I’ve also had their hot cocoa (to die for) and their tuna sandwich, pumpkin spice loaf cake, quesadilla, pumpkin chai iced latte and Thai red tea latte. They were all really really good. This location also has good parking spots!!”
